THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING AT METRO'S
Thank you for visiting the Metros Sports and Social Club website. Originally opened in 1905 as the Metropolitan Vicars Club which was a Sports and Social Club purely for the employees of G.E.C (The General Electric Company) based in Trafford Park. We have had a couple of name changes over the years to the A.E.I Club and then the G.E.C Club…
We are currently closed on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday unless Manchester City or Manchester United are playing in the Premier League and the game is on Sky or BT we will be open from 5pm. Check out our new opening times below:
Thursdays opening at 17:00 and last orders at 21:30 and out for 22:00
Friday opening at 17:00 and last orders at 21:30 and out for 22:00

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS/CLUB RE-OPENING/BOWLING
We hope all our members and friends are keeping well and staying safe. As lockdown is beginning to ease we thought we would let you know where we are up to.
The Executive Committee have not been able to meet as yet but are hoping to do so in the next week or so. This will be to discuss the membership renewals as no decision has been made as yet and our club re-opening.
The problem we have to weigh up is comparing the low sales we had last year when we re-opened in July for a couple of months whilst being able to sit inside the club and watch the football etc on Sky and BT, using our club facilities etc versus only being able to sit outside, waitress service, cold weather, no sport able to be shown and no bowling as yet – would this be financially viable for us to re-open yet?
The various bowling leagues committee’s are meeting to discuss fixtures etc and we are under the impression that the majority of the evening and vets leagues will be commencing on or around week commencing 17th May which is when we are allowed to open and people can sit inside the club and use our facilities once again (based on the current lockdown easing dates).
The good news is that as from Monday 12th April the Bowling Green will re-open for practice purposes only for our bowling members. As per the Government Rulings anyone wanting to use the green for practice will need to pre book, Ray Tully has kindly agreed to run the booking system for us so please contact him to book in. All the current rules and risk assessment will be available to read at the Bowling Pavilion. Whenever possible we ask that bowlers use their own equipment and follow the legislation in place in regards to contact and social distancing. If you need a key for the gate padlock please contact us on here or Jack Taylor.
Finally, on a sad note we have been informed of the sudden passing of one of our life members, Harry Humphreys, his funeral details are yet to be arranged but we will inform you when we have them.
Apologies for the lengthy post, stay safe, take care and we hope to see you all again very soon x
