Thank you for visiting the Metros Sports and Social Club website. Originally opened in 1905 as the Metropolitan Vicars Club which was a Sports and Social Club purely for the employees of G.E.C (The General Electric Company) based in Trafford Park. We have had a couple of name changes over the years to the A.E.I Club and then the G.E.C Club…

We remain closed but we will be re-opening on Monday 17th May at 5pm. Opening and closing times will be advised nearer the time.

Morning everyone, we hope you are all keeping well. The Executive Committee have finally been able to meet and discuss the above.

First of all we wanted to let you all know that the Executive Committee feel it is only fair that there will be no collection of membership subscriptions this year and your membership has automatically renewed until February 2022. When we collect subs again next year the Executive Committee will update your membership card accordingly.

Normally at this time of year we do rely on this source of income and it would help us greatly if we were to have it but you have not been able to use our club and its facilities during the lockdowns so we feel it is only fair to automatically renew your membership. However, if anyone would like to make a donation of any kind to help us financially this would be gratefully received and a receipt would be provided for anyone making a donation.

Secondly, we are going to re-open the club on Monday 17th May, we will let you know the rules that we have to abide by nearer the time. We are going to be open from 5pm and our last orders will be 11pm Monday – Thursday and 11.30pm Friday and Saturday and Sundays will be 10.30pm, however, there may be days and times that if there is nobody in using the club we will be closing early. This is going to be closely monitored as we cannot afford to be trading at a loss.

The Bowling Committee are to meet shortly to discuss the bowling season as the leagues are gradually finalising their fixtures. The bowling green is available for practice, you must book this prior to practice with Ray Tully. If you need a key to the padlock please message us on here or contact Jack Taylor to arrange your copy.

Due to the guideline restrictions currently in place (when we re-open) the Social Section feel our members would not be able to enjoy their cabaret nights as much as they should so, at the moment, they are going to wait until all restrictions are lifted on 21st June (fingers crossed if the Government allow) enabling you all to fully enjoy your cabaret night once again. It has also been decided that cabaret will only be on a Saturday night to begin with and reassessed again later in the year. The first cabaret night will be Saturday 26th June and what a party night that will be!!

Finally, anyone interested in joining will only have to pay £12.50, this will go back to £25 in February next year.

We can not wait to see you all again, in the meantime take care and stay safe x
